Federal Grants

Think you have exceptional financial need? You may qualify for federal aid! Please fill out the FAFSA to determine your eligibility.

Pell Grant

The Federal Pell Grant is the primary source of federal financial aid for undergraduate students with exceptional financial need. It is awarded only to students who have not yet earned a bachelor’s or professional degree. Award amounts are based on your student aid index (SAI) and your enrollment level.

Attending more than one college

Students cannot receive Pell Grant funding at two colleges at the same time. If you attend more than one school during the same semester, your Pell Grant must be processed at the school where you are pursuing your highest degree. You are responsible for informing both schools.

How much money you can get

  • The maximum and minimum Pell Grant for the academic year is set by the Department of Education and can be found on FSA Partner Connect.
  • Students enrolled less than full time receive a prorated amount based on enrollment intensity.

Lifetime limit

You may receive Pell Grants for up to six years of full-time enrollment, known as lifetime eligibility used (LEU). Students who are close to, or have exceeded, their LEU limit may receive a reduced award or no award for the year.

How awards are determined

  • Your award amount is finalized based on how many credit hours you are enrolled in as of the semester’s census date. That is typically the 12th class day.
  • Pell Grant funds will not pay for:
    • Classes you do not attend
    • Audited courses
    • Courses dropped before the semester begins
    • Courses not required for your certificate or degree program

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant provides additional financial support to students with the highest financial need. This funding is limited, and awards are made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Who receives FSEOG

Priority is given to students who:

  • Have a 0 SAI, and
  • Apply for financial aid early

Once the school’s annual allocation is fully awarded, no additional FSEOG funds can be given out for that academic year.

How FSEOG Is Disbursed

  • Funds are posted to your student account after your attendance is confirmed in each class.
  • Awards may be reduced for classes you do not attend.
  • If you withdraw before the semester begins, your FSEOG award may be canceled.
