Emergency Medical Services Admission Information

Succeeding in emergency medical services requires tenacity, grit, and—more than anything—training. In a degree or certification program at San Jacinto College, you’ll get the experiential training you need to rush to heed the call. Ready to apply? Here’s everything you need to know.

How to apply

After you’ve been admitted to San Jac, follow these steps to prepare for your program. By the way, if you haven't applied to San Jac, you'll need to do that first.

If you have any questions or just want to talk to someone about the program, please reach out to us.
  1. Register for Classes and Attend Orientation

First, you'll need to register for your classes. If you have questions about registering, we can help.

Once you register, you'll receive an email invitation with details about orientation. Orientation is required, so mark your calendar now! You're on your way to a great career.

  2. Pass A Criminal Background & Drug Screening Check

The state of Texas requires all EMS students to provide a criminal background check and drug screen—no older than one year—before they can start classes. Visit our third-party vendor, VerifiedCredentials.com to order. The package code is HJHYC-44929 and the cost is $80. Submit your results to the EMS department before the semester begins.

Learn more about San Jac's criminal background and drug screening check.

  3. Get Immunizations

As with any San Jac medical program, the emergency medical services program requires that all students keep their immunizations current through the duration of their coursework.

Learn more about immunization requirements for clinical/external learning.

  4. Take a Physical Exam

Being a healthcare worker is as physically demanding as it is mentally demanding. That’s why we require all applicants to pass a program-approved physical before starting classes. Partner with a physician to assess your physicality using our evaluation form.

  5. Purchase Your Textbooks

Our EMS program uses a few foundational textbooks to guide coursework. All EMS students are required to purchase the textbook packages listed in our updated information packet. Note: you'll receive the information packet during the orientation.

EMS Orientation Dates

To receive an email invitation with meeting details, you’ll need to be a registered student in our summer or fall 2026 EMS courses. The orientation is mandatory, so be sure you’re enrolled! For registration questions, please visit courses and registration.
